It all began with “White’s Our Own Hardware Store” in Dows, Iowa. Carl Durham Sr was a teenager who was in need of a job to start saving money. What a better way to develop skills as a young man than to work at the towns hardware store? Clifford and Veva White owned this notorious small town hardware store while also providing services to the small town for any individuals that were in need of home repairs. Clifford and Carl would go to carry out these repairs to their community which means Carl was gaining a vast knowledge on repairs and renovation, all thanks to his mentor and future Father-in-law, Clifford White.

Fast forward, Carl and his wife Connie Durham (White), now moved and comfortably living in Rock Island, Illinois with their three children Carl Jr, Clifford, and Crystal. Carl Sr working for John Deere and Connie working for the Rock Island/Milan School District. During Connie’s time at the school district she met many individuals in need of home repairs, which was perfect because her husband could help and they could make extra money for their big family!

The demand of repairs grew so fast in such a small amount of time that Carl decided it was time to expand and create “Durham Remodeling & Repair”. Clifford and Veva White created a legacy, one that has grown bigger than they could have ever imagined. Their son-in-law took everything he learned and created a business that has opened up job opportunities to many people and helped take care of the homes in our community.

Durham Remodeling has been locally owned and operated from the very beginning. Founded in 1973 and ran by Carl Durham Sr, it is now owned and operated by Carl and Connie’s eldest son Carl Durham Jr who has extended the legacy and has built the business to flourish. We have several members of family that help us operate this business on a daily basis! We have Fathers and sons, Husbands and Wives, Uncles and Nephews, Brothers and Sisters on our crew. We are one of the few construction businesses in Rock Island that is completely family owned and operated. We hope to continue serving our community in a positive way while meeting new customers and making them happy!
